The day in brief
Surabhi Luthra and Alex Owens demonstrated QLDPC surgery on Quantinuum’s H2-2, using a seven-qubit gadget to measure one logical qubit while preserving its spectator 1. They measured logical X in a [[10,2,3]] code, then used a second gadget to measure commuting logical Z on the spectator 1. On IBM processors, raw VQE residuals for oxygen and beryllium hydride reached 12 to 32 times the reported statistical uncertainty 2.
A Rydberg-atom receiver demonstrated a 210 MHz frequency span using a microwave comb and a position-dependent Stark field 3. Full-band measurements used one vapor cell at a time, while a two-cell test covered part of the span 3. Photon-pairing spectroscopy reconstructed intensity spectra over 400 kilometers of fiber, with a signal-to-noise ratio above 23.5 decibels 4.
Kun Wang proposed three protocols for comparing remote bosonic states using local measurements 5. Jülich researchers presented an exactly solvable Ising model as a benchmark, finding recurring system-size fluctuations in quantum annealing and QAOA 6. Ma and Shi derived successively tighter bounds for a 20-qudit code, lowering the upper bound on k from 6 to 2 7.
The five
- Luthra and Owens Demonstrate QLDPC Surgery on Quantinuum H2-2
Surabhi Luthra and Alex Owens report a hardware demonstration of individually addressed logical Pauli measurements using QLDPC surgery on Quantinuum’s H2-2 trapped-ion processor. Their experiments use a seven-qubit gadget to measure one logical qubit in a two-qubit code block while preserving the spectator qubit.

- IBM VQE Tests Find Error Bars Missed Energy Residuals by Up to 32×
A study of molecular energy evaluations on IBM’s Aachen and Pittsburgh quantum processors found raw VQE residuals for oxygen and beryllium hydride reached 12 to 32 times the reported statistical uncertainty. The 110-job study also found that error mitigation’s effect varied by molecule and processor, while repeated runs exposed variation hidden by per-job error bars.

- Rydberg-Atom Receiver Shows 210 MHz Bandwidth—with a Caveat
A Rydberg-atom receiver demonstrated a 210 MHz frequency span using a microwave frequency comb and a position-dependent Stark field. The full-band measurements used one vapor cell at a time; a separate two-cell test showed reception across part of the span.

- Photon-Pairing Spectroscopy Reconstructs Signals Across 400 km of Fiber
A photon-pairing method reconstructed intensity spectra over a 400-kilometer fiber link, with a signal-to-noise ratio above 23.5 decibels at very low receiving power. The study reports that second-order photon correlations avoid interferogram phase alignment and may support long-haul spectroscopy.

- Kun Wang Sets Out Three Protocols to Compare Remote Bosonic States
Kun Wang’s October 29 paper sets out three ways for distant quantum devices to estimate how similar their bosonic states are using local measurements. Its strongest sample-complexity bound belongs to coordinated Haar measurements, but the paper rates that protocol’s optical implementation as challenging.
