PsiQuantum

PsiQuantum develops photonic quantum processors and systems, using silicon-photonics manufacturing to build toward fault-tolerant, utility-scale quantum computers.

Founded in 2016, PsiQuantum was started by Jeremy O’Brien, Terry Rudolph, Mark Thompson and Pete Shadbolt. Its approach uses photonic qubits and semiconductor manufacturing processes to pursue fault-tolerant quantum computing. The company develops silicon-photonic chips, along with cooling, networking and control systems for its proposed modular quantum computers. Its chips are manufactured at GlobalFoundries’ Fab 8 in New York, and it also develops Construct, software for fault-tolerant quantum algorithm design. Milestones include a 2019 manufacturing partnership with GlobalFoundries, DARPA’s advancement of PsiQuantum to the final phase of its US2QC program in February 2025, and the announcement of a $1 billion Series E round in September 2025. In June 2026, it began construction at its Moreton Bay, Queensland site and continued building its Chicago project. PsiQuantum is pursuing photonic, fault-tolerant quantum computers at utility scale. Its systems are under development; the company says its first planned sites are in Australia and Chicago.
